Accommodation Reviews

As part of an effort to provide useful and practical information, this section comes to introduce hotels, studios, apartments and other accommodation types on Naxos.   We try to make the review as impartial as possible.  That's why the review is done by staying, in person, at the accommodation and finding out first-hand about what it's like to stay there.   This is only a first step to the introduction of the functionality that will allow visitors to share their views with the public.  I hope you will find this useful.

Review #1

Name: Oasis Studios (website) Type: Rooms/Studios
Location: Mikri Vigla (Location Map) Size: 8 Rooms/Apartments

oasis studios @ mikri viglaOasis Studios is located at the village of Mikri Vigla, just 2km or so further away from the beach of Plaka.

Although Mikri Vigla is just 2km from Plaka beach (along the west coastal road) going there from Plaka however requires you to go through narrow country roads. The other alternative is to go there through mainland, which takes a bit longer, so Mikri Vigla is best for when you have transport.  There are buses going towards Chora, etc but they do not run frequently, so renting a car or a scooter is advised.

oasis studios @ mikri viglaOnce you arrive you will see that the studios are really close to the beach of Mikri Vigla but they also have a swimming pool, which means that regardless the weather you always have the chance to go for a swim.  Just by the swimming pool there is a bar, where you can order anything from ice cream and coffee to beer and contails. It had all the things I wanted anyway!

Also, the beach of Mikri Vigla is very popular for watersports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing.  If you're into this sort of thing then Mikri Vigla is a good place for you.  As for the ones who are not fans of those sports, don't worry, the surfers won't bother you.  At least they did not bother me.

Within walking distance from the studios there are a couple of restaurants, a small super market, etc so if you need something that you cannot get at the hotel you can at least go and do some shopping yourself...or even make something in your room using the facilities provided.

Manolis - your friendly tour guide!Manolis, pictured here on the left, is the owner of the Studios and I must say that he provides and excellent service. After checking in I was taken to my room where I discovered that were water, juice and basically a couple of basic things you may need after a long trip.

The room was clean and had all the things I needed. A fridge, small kitchen, TV, air conditioning.  Down at reception there is also a small library area with books, guides, etc and there is also a satellite TV and a couple of computers that you can use to access emails and the internet.

oasis studios @ mikri viglaI must admit that I was very pleasantly surprised by the personal service Manolis offered me (and I could see that the level of service was the same to other visitors) was really really good.  He does indeed make an effort to make your stay pleasant. A simple question about the area may result to getting all the information you need about everything in the area from restaurants and transport, to history and practical tips.

Oh and the best part?  I must say I have never...ever seen anything like this before.  One of the other guests was stuck somewhere, due to a car accident or something, and called Manolis to ask him to notify the car rental company.  Well, then the unexpected happened....Manolis went there himself to pickup the customer and see if he needed any help.

In conclusion, Oasis Studios is a cosy accommodation which, in my opinion, has all the facilities and services you may need. It is not very close to Chora (the main town) and therefore not the best choice if you want to be in town, but if you want a relaxing and quiet holiday I think the location and environment are really good for that. At prices starting 45 euros a studio, Oasis Studios is not the cheapest accommodation around but considering the facilities and most of all the good service, it's all very good value for money.

Pros:

  • Quiet and relaxing environment

  • Close to the beach, and water-sports club

  • Has all the facilities you will most likely need

  • Family environment and Very friendly and personal service

  • Good value for money

  • Mentioned in:
    • Lonely Planet
    • Le Guide du Routard

Cons:

  • Hard to reach without a car

  • Mid-range pricing
